Shipbuilding

Contemporary designers and engineers use steel as a medium to express the most bold ideas and change the world. We are surrounded by skyscrapers, high-rise towers, modern stadiums and shopping centres that were created using incredible architectural and technological solutions. The use of high-quality steel in construction enabled the revolution to happen: conceptually new types of structures were erected, the weight of load-bearing structures was reduced while preserving their high durability, construction time was decreased and the useful life of the buildings was increased.

380,2 million tonnes

This volume is sufficient to produce
42 %
of the global merchant marine fleet or shipbuilding steel for 20 000 vessels

Steel quality is a key factor in ensuring the robustness and longevity of steel structures. Metalloinvest’s enterprises supply high-quality raw materials and steel products for the production of steel constructions that meet the highest standards. The Company’s heavy plate used in construction is produced from high-tensile grades of steel, undergoes all thermo-mechanical testing and has a stable chemical composition.

The high level of trust in Metalloinvest’s products is evidenced by the fact that they are used in the construction of large-scale socially important building projects around the country:

Metalloinvest’s high-tensile steel grades are used to produce functional elements of railway carriages and tank cars, which are capable of holding heavy loads over the course of a longservice life. Tank cars produced from specialised hot-rolled plates can carry heavy loads of chemicals at high or sub-zero temperatures.

The company’s longstanding relationship with mechanical engineering companies is a testament to their trust in the products’ quality and reliability.

Bridge
construction

Building bridges and highways is an important part of infrastructure development. Connecting shores, building transport junctions and establishing routes to hard-to-access areas facilitate the acceleration of economic growth and social development of Russia’s regions.

380,2 million tonnes

It would be enough to build
an intercontinental bridge from Vladivostok to Havana

The steel constructions used in bridge building are exposed on a daily basis to significant dynamic pressure, atmospheric effects, temperature fluctuations, corrosion and other factors. Given the operating conditions of bridges, it is essential to choose the right physical properties and chemical composition for the metal used in bridge construction.

Metalloinvest’s flat steel for bridge construction, manufactured according to Russian standards, undergoes multiple checks and their quality exceeds standard requirements globally for steel used in bridge construction.

Metalloinvest has supplied steel products for the construction of a number of landmark bridges:

The Bugrinsky Bridge

Stroyproekt www.stpr.ru

The Bugrinsky Bridge over the Ob River in Novosibirsk has the largest arch span in Russia at 380 metres long and 80 metres high. The span is connected to the bridge by metal cable approximately nine kilometres long. The total length of the bridge is more than two kilometres.

Vakh River bridge

Mostostroy www.ms11.ru

A bridge across the Vakh River connecting the Tomsk region and Yugra is the largest transport infrastructure project in Siberia. The bridge connects the town of Strezhevoy with Nizhnevartovsk and is a part of one of the main sections of a motorway in Western Siberia. The bridge is 7.9 km long, weights 7,000 tones and has a capacity of 8,000 vehicles a day.
